Laurel is an award-winning artist from San Diego California USA. and she holds a BFA in Art, from SDSU and recently earned a certificate in Art Therapy.. She has a successful career in fine art, design, murals and teaches through college extension classes and private workshops, and classes both small and large. Her art is exhibited in galleries and art shows.

She specializes in coastal,tropical and ocean oriented artworks. With a love for traveling and cruising, she passionately teaches a variiety of art classes onboard luxury cruise ships, with subjects specifically reflecting the itnerary and ports of call, the guests can create in a fun, relaxing setting, learning new techniques and skills. Laurel is a talented art teacher, friendly, fun, encouraging and patient. The classes explore watercolor, acrylic, mix media, colored pencil, and more as well as simple elegant Jewelry making . Laurel updates her classes frequently, with new ports and techniques assuring that guests will thoroughly enjoy themselves and have a sense of pride in their own unique art creations. She puts emphasis on technique as well as ‘seeing and feeling’ what you are painting and her motto is practice makes better!

On a personal note……. Laurel is blessed with 2 children, 5 Beautiful Grandkids all 7 years old and under. She is called “Tutu”, Hawaiian for Grandma. She paints daily, actively Surfs, dances Zumba, practices Hula and enjoys Ballroom Dancing with her husband. They live on a golf course near the beach in Oceanside CA.

Laurel teaches all classes in an encouraging and fun manner, her motto being "practice makes better!". Each class will explore new techniques, with lots of help and tips to improve your artwork. Subsequent classes will build a comprehensive learning experience and reflect the Itnineraries where we are traveling.

SEA DAYS
Explore fun new techniques with painting tools, and different brushes, creating textures, color theory and composition tips, build new skils and have fun as we express ourselves through Watercolor, Acrylic, Mix media and more.. Classes are always welcoming and suitable for all levels beginner to advanced.
Representative examples from previous sea day lessons are below:

1. Playful Dolphins
Using watercolor, resist techniques and pens, we will show movement with splashes, color blending and introduce the fan brush

2. Swaying Palms
Painting this simple subject in Acrylic as we explore a variety of brushes, palette knives, learning how to create fronds and textural trunks.

3. Florals
Learn brush techniques for leaves, petals, and a variety of flowers. Watercolor with pen.

PORT DAYS
Either before or after visiting the Port, we will create wonderful memories that reflect our current Port of call.
A few examples of past lesson plan are below:

1. Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
"Lands’ End" Reflect the craggy rocks that are the tip of Baja, with watercolor washes over wax resist sticks.

3. Oahu, Hawaii
Paint the Iconic Diamond Head Point using tropical shades of blues and greens, with washes of watercolor and vision pens

4. Komodo Island
Pink Sand Beach, using watercolor wet on wet, salt resist for texture, we will add real pink sand onto the beach!
