BIOGRAPHY
Brendan Lally retired as a Chief Superintendent following 30 years police service culminating in a three year secondment as Staff Officer to HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary at the Home Office, London. His service included very senior positions in police training and in race and community relations.He was also a member of the National Executive Committee of the Police Superintendent's Association for England and Wales in which capacity he served on several national committees.This involvement in the political scene brought him in contact with Government Ministers and he represented police in UK at various meetings at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

In the later stages of his career, he was in command of central Sheffield where he met Royalty a number of times including a meeting with HRH the Princess Royal regarding his initiative in respect of a Diversity issue which ,in terms of resolving,was embraced by many police forces in the country. He was also heavily involved as a commander during the 12 month's Miner's Dispute.

Brendan enjoyed an interesting period as a beat constable and worked in the "red light" district where Peter Sutcliffe[the Yorkshire Ripper] was eventually caught. On a lighter note, our subject met and assisted the Beatles to enter and exit one of their sell out concerts.

A career highlight was when,following an initial visit to Colombia,he the lead a team of police/civilian experts back there to assist the Colombian Police in their efforts to catch Pablo Escobar, drugs baron.

Brendan has travelled the World extensively and gives destination talks. He is an experienced public speaker and helps train others in this field of interest. He is an experienced cruise lecturer on a variety of topics and gave as many as 21 presentations on a six week 2018 cruise. He loves poetry too and recites several monologues.

Brendan ran a small West Country hotel for six years with his wife and their business was shortlisted for an award of "Best UK Small Hotel". He also enjoys relating the pitfalls involved in running a small business.

A happily married man with family, Brendan also arranges pilgrimages at his Church and loves playing golf.

NOTE The below crime related presentations will be of REAL INTEREST to UK and NORTH AMERICAN passengers.The talk on PABLO ESCOBAR in particular will be enjoyed by North American audiences.They also enjoy enjoy hearing about the "beat" life of a British "Bobbie" [see 1.6 below]

Whilst some of the below topics are serious in nature and do not lend themselves to humour,most do and my prime objective is always to INFORM and ENTERTAIN so that people will want to return to my future talks.

The story of the notorious serial killer,caught by a colleague in the "red light" district of Sheffield where our speaker once worked It includes the real concern of a family member and the involvement of our then Superintendent Lally.

Retired Chief Superintendent Lally gives an account of a mysterious occurrence he dealt with late one night in Sheffield. [A "Whodunit?"]

1.4 DIVERSITY [and a rainy day]
The 1980's provided great challenges to policing including the Brixton Riots.Retired Chief Superintendent Lally gives an account of a preventative initiative of his own [including the assistance of a future Home Secretary] which gave rise to a Royal visit to Sheffield.

1.5 UK MINER'S DISPUTE 1984
A true account of the involvement of our speaker, a ground commander for many month's of the year long strike,including the upsetting aspects of the tribulations of police and miners alike.

A factual and illustrated snapshot of these beautiful Northern Islands including the neolithic history and discoveries.

An amusing but interesting presentation on the Emerald Isle.

4.10 MEXICO A "snapshot of the country,it's people and cultures.Also includes some places of interest and Aztec history.

4.11 THE PANAMA CANAL[S].An historical account of the construction,cost,usage etc of the first canal and the advantages of having the second.
CRUISE HISTORY / EXPERIENCE
Have enjoyed about 15 contracts with Princess Cruises, Cruise and Maritime Voyages and Fred Olsen Cruise Lines. Have five contracts for future cruises in 2020/21 .These have included World Cruise sectors.
Also successfully completed a P&O Showcase event .
ADDITIONAL RELEVANT INFORMATION
On a few cruises where no Chaplain was on board,I volunteered to lead or organise an interdenominational service for passengers on Sunday sea days. These included six weeks on a World Cruise which,after my disembarkation, guests continued throughout their voyage.
