BIOGRAPHY
Sarah is a Clinical Psychologist and renowned Expert Witness. She achieved her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Warwick University, leading to a rewarding career in the NHS, working in ITU and as a Macmillan psychologist. Sarah is fascinated by how people overcome adversity and what makes for success against the odds. Her psychology career has included 30 years in the NHS and 15 years as an expert witness. Sarah's clinical work involves seeing people after life changing injuries and she continues as a well established expert witness specialising in PTSD, depression and anxiety. Working in the NHS in the area of physical health has involved teaching students, staff and patients about healthy lifestyles, stress management, mindfulness, well being and longevity. During Covid Sarah was a frontline worker on ITU, providing psychological services for patients, relatives and staff.

Sarah has been lucky enough to work in Norway, and the Nordic countries holds a particular fascination, as their populations are said to be the happiest in the world. Sarah has studied the Sami, Norway’s indigenous population, their history and how they have adapted to the demands of the modern world. Sarah has explored how the psychology of arctic explorers predicts the success or failure of their missions, when pitted against the hostile and unforgiving environment of the polar regions.

Using her experience as an Expert Witness, Sarah offers fascinating talks on the role of the Expert Witness in the Criminal and Civil Courts, and how their evidence can bring justice and fair compensation. With her experience of psychology and general health, she is able to offer talks on matters that interest all of us, including health, happiness and longevity.

Her talks will both entertain and inform, providing you with intriguing insights into psychology, the legal system, culture and history.

Sarah enjoys travel, hiking, exploring places, and learning new things so she can share her knowledge, enthusiasm and humour with those attending her lectures.

POLAR EXPLORATION

What makes for success and failure in polar exploration?
We explore The Franklin Mystery, a grim and tragic chapter in the quest to discover the North West Passage, an arctic route described as the Holy Grail of its time. Recent discoveries of the wrecks of HMS Terror and HMS Erebus have shed light on how human error and flaws led to the deaths of so many. Against such failure and tragedy we investigate what, on the contrary, makes for success and safe return, with explorers Fridtjof Nansen, famous for the first crossing of the Greenland interior in 1888, and Roald Amundsen, the first explorer to navigate the North West Passage and of course the South Pole.

People of the Arctic, living on thin ice.
What’s it like to live above the Arctic Circle? How do people cope with daytime darkness in winter and a sun that never sets in summer? We explore the history and lives of the Inuit, previously known as Eskimos, people who have survived against the most cold and harsh climes, but are now threatened by global warming, fighting for the right ‘to be cold.’
