RINA TILLINGER
AUTHOR & SPECIAL INTEREST SPEAKER
Serious, Humorous, Educational, Entertaining

From the Midwest US and the Northwest UK, Rina Tillinger speaks on Anglo-American history with a dash of culture-clash comedy. She is the female Bill Bryson!

Rina wrote a weekly humour column called Yankee Doodles about amusing differences between America and Britain in The Chester Chronicle as well as comic articles for Cheshire Life magazine, ordered by the editor to ‘give Cheshire villages the Bill Bryson treatment’. She gives talks to the Cheshire Women’s Institute, U3A, Rotary Club, Inner Wheel and Probus Club. After speaking, she loves listening - to the many interesting audience members!

Rina feels at home on both sides of the Atlantic. She has learned to drink tea with milk – and prefer it, wait in an orderly queue – and prefer it, and pack her own groceries – will never get used to it! She has worked and volunteered in several schools and hospitals in Cheshire and Shropshire. A primary pupil exclaimed, "Mickey Mouse talks just like you!"

When not embarrassing her English children, Rina sings in a unique all-female rock/jazz choir, A Handbag of Harmonies, featured on the BBC’s Last Choir Standing. They have sung at the home of the richest man in England – the Duke of Westminster!

An accomplished paper and fabric cutter, Rina makes unique cards, coasters, pictures, earrings, mounts and scarves. Diana, Princess of Wales’ butler has sold out of her cards and pictures. She cut out the logo for the Chester Zoo and her papercuttings are in art galleries. Happiness is a sharp pair of scissors!

Rina spent several months teaching English in China, a country she found changing, challenging but charming. She struggled to learn the Chinese language but mastered Chinese food quickly – and lost a stone!

Rina has written five humorous books.
• YANKEE DOODLES: Amusing Differences between America & Britain
• TIPTOE THROUGH THE TOMBSTONES: Dead Interesting Inscriptions
• SWEET & SOUR CHINA: Diary of a Big Nose
• THE DARNWICH WI CAKE MASSACRE: Saga of a WI Speaker
• TOKYO TOES: Memoirs of a Sensei (Coming Soon!)

Rina loves to hear about close encounters of the Anglo-American kind or any
culture-clash misunderstanding. She still can’t believe spotted dick is a dessert!

CRUISE HISTORY / EXPERIENCE
As perhaps the only American speaker on British ships, I've sailed the high seas on dozens of cruises. American and British history collide in The GIs in Britain (my father was 'overpaid, oversexed, over here'), Pioneers on the Wagon Trains (many were Brits), the California Gold Rush (miners, madams & outlaws were Brits), and From Slavery to Freedom (abolitionists were Brits), etc. Fascinating history with stimulating images. Praised by seasoned cruisers as the best speaker in 30 years or 30 cruises!
