James Grant-Peterkin was born in Inverness, Scotland, and took a keen interest in both anthropology and linguistics as part of his studies at Cambridge University. His subsequent academic work led him somewhat fortuitously to the South Pacific, where he was instantly captivated by the rich variety of cultures found in the region, and he spent over 15 years living on Easter Island where he served as the British Honorary Consul.
James has been a regular lecturer on board cruise ships and at schools and universities, covering the history of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, together with the Caribbean Islands. He is the author of two books in the Travel Enrichment Series, 'Transatlantic' and 'South Pacific', as well as a dedicated guidebook to Rapa Nui, 'A Companion to Easter Island'.
