Gary was born in London and lived in Kent in early childhood. He has been married to Sarah, an IT Professional for 38 years and they live in Carshalton Beeches in Surrey. Gary's main passions in life are History and Cricket. He graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Modern History and then followed a career in Human Resources and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Gary spent 20 years as a Consultant then Director with Roffey Park Institute In Sussex and was Director of International Operations for the Institute from 2011-2016, where he divided his time between UK and Singapore.

He has just retired after 3 more years at London Business School as a Programme Director again with a strong international focus but continues to do contract work for LBS as a Programme Director and Executive Coach. Over a period of 20 years as a Management Consultant he was a regular speaker at Conferences in the UK and overseas on Leadership, Change and HR. Gary possesses a LAMDA Gold Medal for solo stage acting and made his stage debut at Charles Cryer Theatre in Carshalton in 2008 and runs a fun Workshop on Shakespeare.

He has been a Town Crier, a Punch and Judy Showman, a Quizmaster and a Rotarian, all activities he performs for charity and the community and is a Board Director for two local organisations in the Housing and Education sectors.

Gary and Sarah love travelling and have cruised extensively since 1999. Gary is an active Member of the Sutton History Club and a regular Speaker on the Women's Institute circuit in Surrey since 2017. He has carried out 40 plus Destination and History and Culture Lectures mainly with Fred Olsen and Saga Cruises since 2008. Gary has worked as a Port Lecturer and Enrichment Speaker since 2008 and over the last 15 years has served on both Fred Olsen Lines and Saga as a Port Lecturer and Enrichment Speaker. In total in both capacities he has fulfilled 40 Cruise assignments. His Port Lecturing specialisms to date have centred around The Baltic, Norway and the Fiords and Christmas Markets of Europe.
In addition he is able to speak authoritatively about The Canaries which he has known for 30 years and Singapore, where he lived and worked for nearly 5 years. He has completed a number of talks as an Enrichment Lecturer on Scottish History, French History and Dutch History and has a suite of presentations on the History of British Traditions.
