Dick Lipton is a retired lawyer and former adjunct professor at The University of Chicago Law School. He has traveled extensively throughout the world, visiting all seven continents and more than 100 countries, and he and his wife spend several weeks every year in the British Isles. A self-described "history buff," Dick enjoys talking about the destinations, history and interesting people (some famous, some infamous, some less known) in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, as well as the Maritime Provinces in Canada. And he can add a discussion about golf and famous golfers in any of these locations.

1. Edinburgh: A city of kings, castles, scoundrels and ghosts.
Explore the history and sights of one of my favorite cities, Edinburgh, and its extremely colorful past.
2. Liverpool: More than the Beatles.
Liverpool may be best known now as the home of the Beatles, but it is a city with a famous (and also infamous) past. Walk through the streets and meet some of its most famous residents (including, of course, the Beatles).
3. Belfast and Northern Ireland -- Changes and Transition
Belfast and Northern Ireland have undergone major changes over the past 100 years, from an industrial hub to the center of "The Troubles" to a growing and peaceful city. Come explore this town and its colorful past.
4. Cork and Waterford, and the history of Britain in Ireland
No cities in Ireland better encapsulates the history of the interaction between Ireland and Britain than this pair in the south of the island. The history of the two towns, and the people who were part of it, provide a glimpse into this complicated relationship.
5. Dover Castle and the Invasion of Britain.
Dover Castle is a tangible reminder of the Norman invasion. Tour the castle and meet the colorful individuals who ruled (or misruled) Britain in the century after the invasion.
6. The British Monarchy, from Wessex to Plantagenet.
Most people have heard about King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, King George III and Queen Victoria. This presentation focuses on the earlier monarchs in Britain and the blood and revolutions that accompanied their reigns. Uneasy lies the crown on the head of the monarch during these tumultuous times.
7. Nova Scotia and the Story of Evangeline.
Nova Scotia, once known as Acadia and Cape Breton, is a beautiful province with a colorful (and troubled) history. Learn about Halifax and the history of the province, all set in the context of one of the most famous poems ever written, Evangeline by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
8. Prince Edward Island.
Welcome to the home of Anne of Green Gables. A delightful town on a beautiful island.
9. Gaspe and the history of the exploration of Canada.
Gaspe is where Jacques Cartier first claimed Canda for France. Explore Gaspe and meet the early explorers, both French and English, who were the founders of early Canada.
10. Quebec: A city of contrasts.
Quebec is an historic town with a fascinating history and beautiful landmarks. Join us as we visit the upper and lower towns of a piece of France that just happens to be located in North America.
