BIOGRAPHY
Nicholas Rodger (born 1949) is a naval historian. He was educated at Ampleforth College and University College, Oxford, after which he spent seventeen years (1974-91) as a Assistant Keeper in the Public Record Office. He was then Anderson Senior Research Fellow of the National Maritime Museum, 1992-99, before moving to Exeter University as Lecturer (briefly), then Professor of Naval History, 1999-2008. In 2008 he became a Senior Research Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, and has won the Duke of Westminster’s Medal for Military Literature (2005), the British Academy Book Prize (2005), and the inagural Hattendorf Prize for Naval History awarded by the U.S. Naval War College in 2012. His publications (as 'N.A.M. Rodger') include:

The Wooden World; An Anatomy of the Georgian Navy (London, 1986; 2nd.ed. 1988; 3rd edn. 2009)
The Insatiable Earl: A Life of John Montagu, Fourth Earl of Sandwich, 1718-1792 (London, 1993)
The Safeguard of the Sea. A Naval History of Britain, Vol.I, 660-1649 (London, 1997)
The Command of the Ocean. A Naval History of Britain, 1649-1815 (London, 2004);
besides thirteen other works, and about eighty articles or chapters in edited collections.

He has appeared in many television productions and lectured to different audiences all over the world.

Nicholas Rodger is willing to talk about most aspects of naval and maritime history appropriate to the waters to be visited, and has lectured on everything from the Vikings to the Second World War.
