Stanley is a retired engineer and university lecturer. He graduated from Northeastern University, Boston, with a BS in Electrical Engineering and went on to receive an MS in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University and an MBA from Boston University. He first worked at Bell Labs in Holmdel, NJ and then spent the bulk of his career at Teradyne, Inc. in Boston, MA. Upon retiring he developed an ‘encore career’ as a university lecturer, returning to Northeastern University. He specialized in teaching freshman engineering courses. He is interested in the history of technology and is able to simplify the technology for us all and weave-in the human interest stories underlying all great achievements.


		Simon Fris Sciences, Energy & Ship Technology MSc, MIMarE

Simon is fascinated by the decisive role of energy in every person’s life, from personal comfort up to society’s economic development and world spanning environmental effects. He graduated in power generation and subsequently spent over 40 years in major energy related companies. Next to Dutch, he is fluent in English and German, speaks French and some Spanish. Although new to cruise ship speaking, he is a regular speaker at professional seminars, and is known for his unconventional approach and humor to arouse and hold the interest of the audience.

Peter is a former Special Operator earning his Green Beret with the 10th Special Forces Group, 1st Special Operations. After his time in the military, Peter spent many years in the intelligence, security and technology businesses before going to law school. Peter is currently an attorney in private practice. He provides destination history lectures based on a traveler’s perspective and has been a regular cruise ships speaker during the last 17 years.

Alan is a science graduate and has worked in the timber, building, chemical, and railway industries, in research and development, sales and marketing roles. He was also a university lecturer for 18 years. He has lectured on cruise ships for 15 years, and has prepared a series of lectures relating to the countries visited on the cruise. These lectures will cover topics related to their History, Geography and Geology.

William Thayer received his BS in Math from Stanford, an MS in Aerospace Engineering from USC and an MBA from USC. He has spent 30 years in the aerospace industry in aircraft, missiles and spacecraft and 10 years in real estate/finance. Although he has a technical/financial background, history has always been his passion. He enjoys lecturing on great human accomplishments and great historical events.
